Nike Hercules Missile
Restoration Project
The Village of Oak Forest Park District enlisted the help of The Veterans Garage to assist in the refurbishment of the 1950's Nike Hercules Missile that has been proudly displayed in front of the Park District Office since 1976.
The Missile is in good condition for it's age, but the rocket booster section (bottom) was severely corroded and ultimately destined to collapse. The Park District wisely decided to take action knowing it was time to prepare this Historic Surface To Air Missile (SAM) for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. The Missile section (top) was removed from the Rocket Booster Section and placed in temporary storage on site. The Rocket Booster section will be removed and replaced with a structural pedestal to support the Missile Section in an 'in flight' position. The Missile is all aluminum and less subject to future corrosion. It will undergo complete media blasting, new epoxy primer and paint to original colors and markings before being reinstalled on it's new display mount.
We are honored to have the opportunity to assist the Village of Oak Forest Park District in preserving a meaningful and lasting display dedicated to the Men and Women of the Armed Services.
